Art Workshop "Exploring with Nature" at the Kerrobert Courtroom Gallery

Monday, Aug 26, 2019 at 10:00AM Repeating event

Kerrobert Courtroom Gallery

Taught by Jo Petty of Ashcroft, BC
In this workshop we will be exploring and experimenting with Natural Earth Pigments. We will learn how to take dry natural pigments and mix them with walnut oil. These are the same pigments that have been used for thousands of years. They come from natural occurring minerals, rocks or insects. They are archival and permanent colours. Walnut oil has also been used for centuries. It is the carrier oil that was used from the Renaissance and back through history. The results of mixing these colours by hand is to create a non toxic oil paint. This is better for our health and the environment. The next step is adding cold wax medium to create incredible textures and layers of colour.
All supplies will be included in the price of the workshop.
Supplies to bring from your studios are:
Pallets. Glass works best for mixing paints. But you can use any sturdy pallet.
Pallet knives for mixing pigments
Paper towels
Old credit cards for applying paint and scraping through layers
A few sticks for scraping and applying paint
Drawing boards. These could be pieces of cardboard that are at least 14x18 inches.
